This is a great program, however the version available through CNR is O-L-D! (ver. 1.2.4) an early 2007 release and already the most current is 4.xxx. Furthermore, the spellcheck in the mail component is not there or functioning, nor is the Import feature functioning. A real disappointment!

When will 'they' provide a current update?!

Latest version (depending on OS) is 4:3.5.9 (1.2.4 is the latest available version)...

Thanks much for the reply. Can you tell me how I might install the latest ver.? The install I'm running now from CNR is lacking in some functionality i.e., no Spellcheck for the Kontact module, the Import (e-mails) was whited out- not working and more.

I've been on the Kontact web site and have read some, but I haven't a clue as to how to install a download from thre into Linspire 6.++. I don't understand all the Linux jargon and commands I did click on the latest version you referenced here and even thought it was going to install automatically, but not so.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Jeff

You might want to try installing KDE PIM...

KDEPIM is Kontact I think. From:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KDE_Personal_Information_Management

"Kontact – Brings KDE PIM applications under one roof"

And according to http://www.kontact.org/news.php the CNR version of Kontact is the latest. Individual components of Kontact may be out of date ??? but I'm not sure.

Anyway, If you install ispell from CNR that should get your spell checking working. You may have to open an email and click Options >>> Automatic spellchecking. Worked for me.

Cheers

Hmm ... the ver. running that I downloaded from CNR says 1.0.2 and it doesn't have some of the features listed on the KDE.org site.

To compound things, I tried my hand at downloading nad installing the latest ver. of Kontact and hte first thing I noticed was a quick Splash screen I hadn't see before and the next thing I noticed was my Summary screen at the start-up now only shows Summary, Mail, Todo and Calendar. and instead of opening with the Summary screen, it opens with the Mail screen. So I clicked on 'Summary' and it closes the program. Guess the update/install attempt didn't quite work right huh? :-)

Appreciate all the help here. I do need to get my existing ver. straightened out and would like to get the latest ver. on my system here.

Thanks!

Jeff

P.S. - The mail files/directories are stored where? I'm thinking I'll just save those out, reinstall and then overwrite the directory with my old one. and I'd still like to pull in my Thunderbird e-mail files and directories! (There was no Import function active in the original download. That was whited out.)

Thanks for that recommendation. CNR has become a little frustrating recently. They've changed the format/layout from what it use to be. And just now I clicked on the Install button for KDE-PIM and nothing happened. I use to have a progress screen show what was going on, but no longer. Any thoughts on this one? -Jeff
