Am I hallucinating, or am I just woefully behind on everything, or is there really a CNR for windows coming up??

I went to download the CNR client here: http://cnr.com/supportPages/aboutDownloadPlugin

and I was shocked to see at the bottom "MICROSOFT WINDOWS" and then immediately below that "NOTE: The CNR Client comes pre-installed on these Linux distros.
If you're running one of these distributions you do not need
to download the CNR Client."

Not to sound like an annoyer, idiot or n00b, but I was not aware that CNR would soon be support Windows.

Also, the fact that now every application page (example here: http://cnr.com/products/overview/wine), now has Microsoft listed in grey on the "Supported Distributions" strikes me as a little scary.

Yes you are hallucinating. Stop smoking those funny cigarettes ;-)

Actually, we just recently added support for the Windows packaging format which means we could start hosting Windows applications. Our partners from whom we provide custom app stores have asked us to provide this as they ship both kinds of PC's (Linux and Windows).

There are a lot of other application frameworks that we will now be able to support that will be good for Linux, things like Android, JavaFX, etc.

A Cary Harper sighting. Will wonders never cease?...

That partner is ASUS. The EeePC is available with Windows (god knows why...) and Xandros.

Hey Cary, what's the word on OS development?

I don't have a lot of visibility into the OS team but I know they are working on some really cool new UI for the next Xandros build.

Sorry I have been mising from the forums, I know I need to do better on that.

Hello,

I was just wondering 2 things that you may help me get an answer to...

1º- OpenSuse CNR plugin version - is that very far away??? kind of: will we get it in 2009, at least, or it ain't even been worked yet?

2º - Is there any inniciative to create offline installation??? for example like PBI (from PC-BSD) or the OSI from opensuse... something we could download, burn into a cd or a pendrive and install in as many computers as we would like to (having CNR, of course)???

Thanks

(it's nice to seen CNR is not dead at all)

On Q1 - We haven't worked on an RPM client yet, but it would be a simple matter of dropping in YUM in the place of DPKG and APT-GET. On the server side we would need to import the repositories and parse the RPM package. Since the RPM package is highly organized it shouldn't be too difficult to accomplish. We aren't sure on the timing yet. Also, Suse has announced that they want to build an app store so that should be interesting to see what happens there as well.

On Q2 - Yes, one of our top priorities to be able to install to an external memory device and install from an external memory device. That feature will be available soon in the new CNR client.

As you may guess, i'm an OpenSuse and RPM fan... but i would for sure change for a good distro (e.g. kubuntu) that would have KDE and an updated CNR plug-in until suse has something aceptable.

Now regarding to Q2... you really let my blood pumping heheheh. I can't wait 'till next CNR version (capable of offline instalation) is out. IMHO this is what's keeping Linux behind Window: the easyness of managing 3rd party software.

I hope it will not take to long.

Thanks for answering ;)
